Description

Interference Filters

These filters consist of an all dielectric Fabry Perot type coating, along with other components for additional blocking, and are then cemented to form a solid stack. The stacks are then cemented into mounting rings and sealed to prevent the ingress of moisture.

The degree to which a filter prevents transmittance of wavelengths outside of the pass band is known as blocking, typically expressed as energy radiated beyond the passband to energy radiated within the passband. Wavelength discrimination derives from constructive and destructive interference at partially reflecting boundaries within the filter.

An interference filter should be illuminated by collimated beams normal or perpendicular to its surface or shifts to the central wavelength will occur.

Illuminating the filter with its reflective side towards the source will minimise thermal effects.
